Handmade BJD Doll
I enjoy working with clay and other physical materials. In my first complete BJD doll prototype, I experimented with different polyclays, metals, resins and textiles to build the eyes, head, faceup, hair, body parts, outfit and footware for my new character.
The goal of this project was to explore East Asian representations of beauty while learning more about human anatomy and the suprising deep and engaing BJD community!
Below are some image records of the making process. I used different polyclays to iteratively sculpt and bake the body parts. It took a while to understand the different brands' material properties and choose my favorites.
