UNIVERSAL NOMADIC RESIDENCE

UNR is an inspiring working, living, and networking space designed for modern digital nomads to depict life in their artistic ways, providing emotional and physical security.

This is a 14-week project to create a heightened awareness in sustainability and ecological issues and to create innovative solutions for present and forward-thinking scenarios. It will consider issues of sustainability through the exploration and design of the domestic and urban "micro-house".

DIGITAL NOMADS

Digital nomads are a type of people who use telecommunications technologies to earn a living and, more generally, conduct their life in a nomadic manner. Such workers often work remotely from foreign countries, coffee shops, public libraries, co-working spaces, or recreational vehicles.

INSIGHTS

A balance between work & life

Organizing life and working on your own is always a difficult part since you are not going to a normal office to do the work.

Emotional connection

Many people mentioned lacking belonging. Because you are moving from place to place. it is hard to find that community that will grow and changes with you. Shying away and avoiding connecting in a deeper level makes emotional connection vital.

Open space

Open space is needed for networking and earning a living.  Many digital nomads would love to have an own co-working base, however, you only stay a place just a couple months, so there is no point to go through the troublesome process to by land.

HOME

BASE

The strategy is to have 2 modules - home and base.

'Home' is a 10ft shipping container size module which is your own private space, and it can be moved around and installed to the 'Base'.

'Base' is a module that comes with 3 different container sizes - 10ft, 20ft, and 40ft. It can be put on a landowner's idle land for leasing to the digital nomads.

The design has Introvert and Extrovert sides. The introvert side faces north, and the environment is more private. The extrovert side faces south, and the design is for open and welcoming people.

STORY

HOME - Emotional connection that goes with digital nomads worldwidely. Nomads find the base that can rent from the place they want to go, and then install the 'home' on the spot. They can rent multiple spots if they want.

BASE - Landowners can install 'base' to their idle lands temporarily. They choose the size base on their needs, and then lease the spots to digital nomads. By doing this, nomads can eliminate the trouble of buying land.
